Inaugural "Prepare" Fair a super success - 2007-12-12
The first “Prepare for College” Fair on Nov. 17 was a resounding success as representatives of the Dallas County Community College District, SMU, the SAT College Board and Neiman Marcus spoke to more than 80 area high school students.
Heroes basketball director Ray Johnston was extremely pleased with the inaugural event at Gilley's Dallas. “I believe the students got a lot out of this event,” Johnston said. “The mock interviews at the Neiman Marcus table were great. I picked up some tips myself.”
The SAT College Board delegate explained how to prepare, register and score well on the college entrance exams. The Neiman Marcus table focused on job interviewing and what recruiters look for in candidates. The Dallas County Community College District group shared important information about the community colleges in the Dallas area and featured a game where students competed against one another. SMU shared information about its academics and campus.
Students who participated in the Heroes event were from many schools across the area, including Lincoln, Cedar Hill, Woodrow Wilson, Sunset, Southlake Carroll, Mesquite, North Dallas and others. Six volunteers helped direct students to each station and conduct the mock interviews:
* Rogers Healy, Rogers Healy & Associates Realty (www.rogershealy.com)
* Blaine Annett, Stream Realty (www.streamrealty.com)
* Dupree Scovell, Trammel Crow (www.trammellcrow.com)
* Kelsey Walker, Neiman Marcus (www.neimanmarcus.com)
